Meet Clinic Director Austin Dunn
How did you get started in this line of work?
I injured my shoulder during collegiate baseball at Lander University. While recovering in the training room, I was fascinated by the process of recovery. I started job shadowing physical therapists around the area and knew the impact that I could make as a physical therapist as a career. This started my goal to become a physical therapist so I could not only help others reach their functional goals, but also serve the community.
What has been your most satisfying moment in business or what motivates you to go to work every day?
My passion each day is to be better than the day prior by impacting the lives of others. I’m motivated by helping people reach their functional goals. My most satisfying moment was when I saw my first patient in my new clinic and watching the clinic grow each and every day.
How do you define business success or to what do you attribute your success in this position?
As a physical therapy clinic owner, I attribute my success to relationships with others. Also, I wouldn’t be anywhere without my wife, my family and my faith to lead me in the right direction.
In what key activities would you recommend business professionals invest their time?
I would recommend investing in any opportunity to grow as a person, gain trust from others and build meaningful relationships. Also, I’m a strong believer in physical wellness, which leads to mental clarity and sets an example to others the importance of exercise.
Who has been your greatest inspiration?
My parents have been my greatest inspiration, instilling positive moral values into me from a young age. They have motivated me and supported me in all endeavors through life. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for them pushing me through the hard times.
What business-related book is a must-read?
It’s Your Ship by Captain D. Michael Abrashoff, who was a former commander of the U.S.S. Benfold. It is a great read and showed me how to take charge of your own ship and how you lead others.
What entrepreneurial tricks have you discovered to keep yourself focused and productive?
Always start each day with a set routine. My day starts with making my bed, drinking some coffee, and getting into the gym. Also, it is important to have a daily measure of success for meeting the larger goals for your business.
What piece of advice would you give to someone who wants to become an entrepreneur?
If you have a goal in life and vision for your future, set a plan and stick to it. Just remember sometimes you must be comfortable with being uncomfortable for personal growth.
