Lexington Technology Center Celebrates 50 years

Lexington Technology Center first opened its doors in the Fall Semester of 1974 as a response to federal legislation, the Vocational Education Act of 1963.  In the beginning, LTC was established as the central hub of Career and Technology Education (CTD) for Lexington One initially serving students from Gilbert, Lexington, and Pelion High Schools.  Today, they proudly serve all five high schools in Lexington One, now including River Bluff and White Knoll High Schools.

In the beginning, Lexington Technology Center offered some of the same programs that they offer today, like Agriculture, Automotive Repair, Automotive Technology, Business and Finance, Carpentry, Drafting, and Welding.  LTC was one of the first schools to expand into Computer Science and Programming in the 1980s and later added Health Science in the 1990s due to industry demand.  Today, LTC has expanded to 32 Career and Technical Education Program Areas within the 16 career clusters defined by the state.

People make Lexington Technology Center special.  Students from LTC are state and national winners in Career and Technical Student Organizations.  Teachers have been consistently recognized for their outstanding work in their subject areas.  In 50 years, there have only been four directors:  Founding Director Al Berry (1974-1986), Ken Lake (1986-2012), Bryan Hearn (2012-2016), and Bryce Myers (2016-present).  Finally, partnerships with Lexington County business and community organizations are a foundational cornerstone of the education process.

Today, we celebrate the legacy of Lexington Technology Center and the individuals that poured into LTC over the years.  We look forward to continuing to build generations of excellence and to celebrate the individuals, past and present, that make LTC so special.
