Lexington Sertoma Club to Host 14th Annual Big Thursday Celebration
● Commemorates Gamecocks vs. Tigers Football Rivalry Game
● Features former players and veterans of the Carolina-Clemson rivalry
The Lexington Sertoma Club will host its 14th annual Big Thursday Celebration on Thursday October 19th, 2023, at the Icehouse Amphitheater and Pavilion in Lexington starting with a social at 5:30 p.m. followed by buffet-style dinner and program.
This fundraising event commemorates the state’s biggest college football rivalry, which was played on Thursday the week of the South Carolina State Fair through 1959 before moving to a permanent weekend berth. This year
guest speakers will include football standouts from the late 1980s/early 1990s will speak about their
exciting Carolina-Clemson football experiences.
The Lexington Sertoma Club’s inaugural Big Thursday event was on Oct. 22, 2009, which was exactly 50
years after the last Big Thursday game played in Columbia. Held in cooperation with the Town of
Lexington, this event is part of our continued commitment to promote and sustain volunteer service,
charitable support, and community leadership in the greater Lexington area.
Lexington Sertoma Club is part of the national Sertoma, Inc. family of local civic service clubs. A thriving
nonprofit service organization that has been in existence for over a century, Sertoma is dedicated to
improving the quality of life for those at risk or impacted by hearing loss through education and support.
Funds from this year’s event will fund children’s attendance at Camp Sertoma as well as numerous other
community-need and sponsorship opportunities.
